Art Installations The St Paris Public Library is currently show casing three examples of installation art. These three dimensional works of art are designed to support our summer reading program theme: Dream Big-Read. Installation art transforms our library into a dreamy space for our summer readers to enjoy. The buliding takes on a new visual appeal with the additions. Staff member, Kevin Fidler, built a sage green mini bed for our entrance display case. The nighttime reads display case exhibits books, and stuffed animals ready for bed and ready for a good book. Stars float above them and the books on display all relate to night time reading. Children reading are rewarded with a plastic bottle cap. These caps signify ten minutes of reading time for each child. If a child reads sixty minutes they are given 6 caps to hang on the wall. These caps are affixed to a large white moon shape and create an ever changing moon scape. After the seven week program we expect a large three denominational moon to be created. It is fun to see these ordianary bottle caps come to life with the art concept and love from our patrons. Our reading program is a seven week program and features programs for teen, adults and children. Children are also entertained with in house scavenger hunts, mystery questions, and weekly prizes for just visiting the library. Join us and enjoy the displays and the fun that reading produces.Summertime is a dreamy time to read and stay cool with a visit to our library.
A local family has folded their way into the library with origami. Owen, Megan, Ellen O'Connor have made close to 800 colorful peace cranes. These lightly flutter from the ceiling ,creating a colorful and breezy atmosphere. This installation draws oohs and ahs from our library visitors. They move and shimmer with each passerby. Many thanks to this family for their time and dedication.

“Read It Here First” is a column Nancy writes for the Urbana Daily Citizen Newspaper. It is fun to share this with visitors to our web page. Nancy has an undergraduate degree in English and loves to write. It is very rewarding to promote the library with these articles. If you have any topics you would like to suggest, please feel free to do so. The St Paris Public Library offers a world of knowledge and the love of reading to everyone! |
